Each year the American Staffing Association (ASA) celebrates National Staffing Employee Week honoring the invaluable contributions of temporary and contract employees across the nation. This year NSEW takes place September 11th through the 17th.
“National Staffing Employee Week is a time for the staffing, recruiting, and talent solutions industry to celebrate the millions of outstanding temporary and contract employees who—every day—contribute to American productivity and the overall economic well-being of our economy,” said Richard Wahlquist, chief executive officer at ASA. “We invite all businesses, organizations, and staffing firms across the country to recognize the temporary and contract workers who are making a difference in their organizations.” Most recent stats shows that in 2022, U.S. staffing and recruiting companies hired a total of 14.6 million temporary and contract employees in nearly every industry in the labor market. These “temp” jobs can also lead to permanent work, according to ASA research. In fact, permanent employment is a top motivation for choosing this line of work, and one in five contract workers cite scheduling flexibility as a key reason for choosing staffing, according to an ASA Staffing Employee Survey.
Here are some LLoyd Staffing metrics regarding our temporary workforce:
- 48.7% of new associates are referrals from existing associates, placed candidates and clients
- More than 1,250 associates have been “LLoydEmployed” 2 years or longer
- 26% of our assignments transition temp-to-hire
Lloyd is proud to once again participate in this important event recognizing the outstanding contributions of America’s contract workforce. This year we honor one of the members of our own talent community we call, The #LloydEmployed and pay tribute to one special individual who has had a big impact on our workforce, client partners and the business community overall. She will receive a $100 Amazon eGift card as a token of our appreciation.
INTRODUCING LLOYD’S STAFFING EMPLOYEE OF 2023…
Pamela Hayes Liggins
Pamela Hayes Liggins has been #LloydEmployed since August 2021. A licensed Phlebotomist, Pamela began her first assignment with us in the middle of the Covid Pandemic. Her prior healthcare experience, particularly in a lab setting, made her exactly the right individual to help us launch and administer a high-volume staffing project on behalf of the CUNY system of 25 universities. Its mission was to ensure the health and safety of students and faculty by individually testing the campus population with nasal swabs creating a safe and compliant environment for learning. It wasn’t long before Pam was promoted to Team Lead and began handling one of the 19 sites where this project took place. She provided on-site field management and monitored meticulous recording keeping, along with doing the actual testing.
Pamela demonstrated from the onset that she had the ability to supervise, engage and motivate other workers because of her efficiency, skill set and prior work experience. Once the CUNY project ended, she was re-assigned to a contract role at a very busy NYC urgent care center and worked that position while their full-time employee took a leave of absence.
Pam told us she enjoys her temp assignments and diverse project work, along with the extra money and flexibility that is part of the contract experience. All the while Pam worked as a Lloyd contractor, she was juggling a full-time role on a school board and proved she was a woman who could multi-task with ease. Most recently, in May 2023 she became part of Lloyd’s project with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Asylum Seekers where she helps refugees to the U.S. navigate resources and documents for living arrangements, healthcare, education and employment.
While temping and helping others, Pam has been undergoing cancer treatments to regain her own health (and we are happy to report she is succeeding!) She is consistent with attendance and always puts her best foot forward even on days when we are sure it might be a struggle. Since taking on the DHS project Pamela has proven to be a consistent source of new talent, referring at least one candidate a week to Lloyd. Best of all, 90% of her referrals have joined our team and are currently working with us.
We asked Pam what has kept her going as a member of the #LloydEmployed and also for her best advice to others considering contract work; she told us, “I value Lloyd’s loyalty, professionalism, and accurate assignment information Since my start, Lloyd staff members have never given me incorrect information just to get an assignment covered. If it’s something they are unsure of, they always tell you and try to find the correct answer. Remember, Lloyd is not just a temporary staffing company, it is a place you can work long term and you will feel valued and respected. Just always work and remember whatever job you undertake, put your best effort forward to build great relationships and you will be able to succeed.”
Pam is both an advocate and ambassador for Lloyd. She embodies all the values and commitment we appreciate. Her Lloyd supervisor, VP Melissa Matos, CSP, nominated her for this award and says, “Pam is a hard worker who has never let us down.” Pam is also an author with four published books known as the Brown Girl Squad Dream series focused on empowering young women to follow their dreams. And even with this busy schedule, Pam finds time to coach young girls and is an advocate for the NYS Innocence Project working to help overturn the wrongfully convicted.
Thank you Pamela – we are so very proud to have you among the #LloydEmployed and wish you only the best personally and professionally. You are an asset to LLoyd and we are proud to have you represent us in the business community and workforce.
We thank ALL of our associates for the work they do and for representing Lloyd in such a positive way out in the business community. You are the #LLoydEmployed!
